The use of of individuals that are so called what Americans "sexy" in advertising is definitely a controversial topic. It seems about every other commercial or ad plays the sex card on having attractive females or males try to sell their product. Most of the time the products are not even that good of products but the advertisement is there to be controversial so people remember the ad when they are thinking of buying something. A good example of this is Hardee's and their use of models like Kate Upton and Kathryn Webb. They show these models eating the burger and acting all promiscuous but since when is a burger supposed to be sexy? It just gets kind of old, the sex appeal just really has lost its impact. I find ads refreshing that utilize real people not actors that show the products actual benefit. I know that is not as good to look at as a model but I feel it appeals more to the regular person. I do not just buy things based off what dudes who are "good-looking" buy, I buy things I like and are a benefit to me. It just seems that almost every week you hear stories of sexual ads that offended people but that may have been the target. The ad gets on news outlets and makes the rounds which allows people to see it and remember it. Our issue as Americans as we glorify these advertisements, and the actors who portray this fake image of what the ad is showing.
Most ads show a fake reality that most of us will never see and that is another controversy that comes with advertising, you have to watch each with a grain of salt. Most alcohol commercials play on this fake reality. Well that fake reality can be dangerous where people take drinking too far and get themselves hurt. I think people just need to be smart enough to know exactly when the fake reality is just not attainable.

March Madness
After watching March Madness for the entire weekend I'm pretty I memorized the different advertisements on a loop. It actually got so old that sometimes I would just mute the TV during commercials because I couldn't handle watching the ad I had seen 20 plus times again. The reason this is happening is the NCAA is giving its sponsors all the air time during the games to promote because they pay the NCAA money to be corporate sponsors. Also Buffalo Wild Wings has really paid up for the air time it is receiving because they are advertising on legitimately every channel (TNT, TBS, TruTV and CBS) during TV timeouts, and they have a specific overtime campaign for when the games went into overtime. The reason is they want people to go to Buffalo Wild Wings because they are portraying the perfect game watching atmosphere for March Madness. Here are some more observations I had:
-E-Trade came out with a new baby campaign which included a talking cat. The cat eventually gets the baby to "quit" the commercial. They gave a link to check out to see why the baby quit at the end of the commercial.
-Bud Light has come out with these aluminum pints that are re-closable and they are showing a party atmosphere with some EDM music in the background. Bud Light has done this to try to get the college kids who are watching to go out and purchase this during the weekend with the showing of the "good time".
-McDonald's also released a semi new commercial with LeBron James and Johnny Manziel. These two are probably the most marketable athletes when it comes to young adults in the sports world today, so McDonald's using these two (along with Alex Morgan) to showcase their new menu items, especially to young adult men.
-Lastly, The Fiat Mirage commercial was bar none my favorite. I saw this commercial probably 60 times this weekend but I found it hilarious even after seeing it so many times. The Diddy part with the guy at the end saying I want to take Diddy mirage with me was too good.

Super Bowl Commercials
To start off, I personally thought the advertisements this Super Bowl Sunday were pretty mediocre compared to previous years. Some bright spots were Budweiser, Doritos and Toyota but ultimately I just did not enjoy the advertisements very much this year.
Doritos - The time machine concept was well done, along with the idea of the little kid out smarting the man with the bag of Doritos. Overall I thought this was one of the better advertisements from Super Bowl Sunday.
Turbotax - This one was not one of my personal favorites. I know a lot of people enjoyed this one I just did not find it as appealing or funny as other people did. A tax company and prom just don't click for me.
Bud Light - Now this campaign was hyped up for weeks prior to the big game. The issue is the ad seemed more like the game, a lot of hype not a lot of substance. Essentially Bud Light spent millions of dollars for this campaign, and it was just too random for me to enjoy.
Budweiser - Budweiser rolled out two incredible advertisements. That being the puppy with the horses and the soldier welcome home. Both achieved emotional response of the highest level. I really enjoyed the puppy one, but for me the soldier (hero) welcome home was by far my favorite advertisement of the night. I recently saw the movie Lone Survivor (which was nothing short of incredible) and the idea of this solider coming home to that welcome after seeing what our troops sacrifice for our freedom and safety was extremely well done by Anheuser Busch.
T-Mobile - As an avid football fan I know about Tim Tebow all too well. T- Mobile did an awesome job incorporating him into this advertisement. It was funny and refreshing to see Tebow not be straight edged.
U2 and Bank of America - I really did not like this move by U2. I understand there are a ton of people watching the Super Bowl, but I feel that U2 is a big enough name where they did not have to roll out their new song by partnering with BOA.
Toyota and Muppets - This one a close second to Budweiser. Terry Crews is hilarious and fairly popular around the country, and almost everyone knows the Muppets so this overall a win-win advertisement for Toyota to roll out their new models.
Jaguar - Typically you do not see too many Jaguar commercials, but I thought they did a great job with incorporating the last couple super villains from Marvel's last couple of movies. This was smart because most people have seen these movies (mostly well to do males, who Jaguar is targeting here) and the British aspect helps as well.
Geico - My last point from the advertisements would be with Geico. I absolutely cannot stand their campaign(s) lately. They suck, plain and simple. The fact they seem to change mascots every week and use ridiculous cliches to talk about how to save money is infuriating. I'm glad I will not be watching as much TV now that football is over so I do not have to constantly see those terrible Geico ads.
